A More Fluid Squarespace

Image: Squarespace

I have been using Squarespace for some websites for ten years. The company has been around for 20 years and lots of designers and people who are not designers have used it to build their own websites.

This year they launched Fluid Engine, a new platform that is heavily drag-and-drop technology. It's the first really big update since I have used the product.

It allows much more customizable sites. The template used in the decade before (Layout Engine) kept you in a 12-column grid where you could drag and drop widgets and resize them - but you were still forced to fit the grid. Now the "fluid" allows you to place them almost anywhere on the screen. You can also make overlapping images and also stretch images to the edge of the screen for a full-bleed layout.
